NEW MATERIAL:6'-alpha-L-Arabinofuranosylmaltose. USE:An antitumor agent, having low toxicity. PREPARATION:1,2,3,6,2',3'-Hexa-O-acylmaltose (acyl is preferably acetyl) is condensed with 2,3,5-tri-O-acyl-beta-L-arabinofuranosyl bromide in diazomethane in the presence of mercury cyanide and a dehydrating agent (preferably synthetic zeolite having uniform pore diameter) preferably at 40-60 deg.C for 24hr, and the reaction product is deacylated with an amine (preferably triethylamine).
