On the pressure-side pipeline to a centrifugal pump, cavitation, pulsation, suction-side filling-level variation and system pressure as well as pressure difference are measured by means of one or more metal diaphragms which are provided with foil strain gauges. The voltages in the mV-range, which can be measured without a great deal of effort, correspond to the pressure changes in the system and can be used for further processing in particular by means of microprocessors in combination with alarm and monitoring indicators or actuators such as electric motors or restrictor valves. Consequently, cavitation can be suppressed, the noise level reduced, the pump efficiency improved and the electrical power consumption of the centrifugal pump reduced. Fluid density, flow velocity, volumetric flow and mass flow in the pipeline can also be verified via repetitive computing processes in the microprocessor. |
