Process for the nitrogen purging of melts of aluminium and its alloys

The nitrogen is generated in situ by a mixture of substances which contains cyanometallates, especially an alkali metal cyanoferrate(III), as N carrier and an oxidising agent in stoichiometric excess. The substances which are inert in connection with the desired reaction can also be added to such mixtures of substances. They are applied preferably in tabletted form by dipping or after addition of a suitable weighting substance as a self-sinker.
