PURPOSE:To enable continuous production of a copper alloy clad wire rod by dipping a core wire which is subjected to surface cleaning by non-machining into a molten copper or copper alloy to stick the molten metal around the core wire and hot rolling the casting rod formed in such a way. CONSTITUTION:A seed wire is passed through a cleaning device 23 and the surface thereof is thus cleaned by non-machining. The resultant core wire 1 is passed into a housing 19a in which an inert gaseous or reducing gaseous atmosphere is maintained. The core wire is then fed into an insertion port 2 for the core wire of a crucible 1. The core wire 11 is dipped into a molten copper or copper alloy 5, by which a casting rod 12 stuck and solidified with the molten metal 5 around the core wire 11 is obtd. Such rod is rolled by each one set of oval caliber rolls 16A and round caliber rolls 16B. The reduction ratio by rolling is kept at <=40% to prevent the thickness deviation of the copper alloy layer and the atmosphere in the chamber 15a is made non-oxidative. The continuous production of a copper alloy clad wire rod having good quality is thus made possible. |
