The container (1) according to the invention is aerated by means of apertures (23, 27) situated diagonally opposite one another and provided in longitudinal supports (7, 8). The longitudinal supports support at least one side wall (6) of the container (1). Inside, they are provided with shields (20, 29) which are arranged above the opposite apertures. Each longitudinal support (7, 8) is formed by a cross member (11, 11a) which is attached directly to the side wall (6) and either to the top wall (2) or to the bottom (3) of the container (1). Said cross member is provided with a portion (13) of C-shaped cross-section which bounds a hollow space (14) facing the interior of the container (1). Furthermore, each support comprises a flat element (12) which is fastened to the cross member (11, 11a) in such a way that the said hollow space (14) is closed off. The flat element (12) is provided with a multiplicity of through-holes (23) and is attached at the top to an inner upper edge (19) which is bent away from the C-cross-section (13) of the cross member (11, 11a), the attachment means (22) being inaccessible from outside the container (1). The portion (13) of the cross member of C-cross-section is provided at the bottom with a plurality of eyes (27) opposite the holes (23), which eyes extend downwards and outwards relative to the container (1) in order to bring the hollow space (14) into communication with the outside atmosphere. <IMAGE>
