A non-lubricated rotary compressor has matched rotors which are rotatably disposed in working chambers; each rotor has at least two profiled sections; each profiled section has only one projection and one recess spanning an arc of essentially 180 DEG . An inlet orifice communicates directly with all the profiled sections and with an outlet orifice in a lateral plate at the outermost axial end of the working chambers. The angular offset between adjacent profiled sections is at least 130 DEG , and the pitch speeds of each rotor are at least 60.96 m (200 feet) per second.
