A sensor for detecting the filling level of free-flowing, abrasive or aggressive, at least in part fine granular contents in a container (58) is equipped with a sensor head (28) which can be moved pendularly and/or circularly. The torque force of the driving synchronous motor (74), which force is braked when the sensor head dips into the contents, remains switched off until the sensor head (28) is immersed in the contents. <??>A fixed drive casing (14) has a driving arm (10) supported therein in a pivotable or rotatable manner which in turn engages, via a bearing (30, 45) or a hinge (62), with the sensor head (28). A flexible, permanently elastic sealing element (32, 56) hermetically seals the region which is situated between the drive casing (14) and the sensor head (28) and contains the sensitive bearings of the driving arm.
