PURPOSE:To reproduce an intermediate tone picture in an excellent way by separating a series of image data of different kinds according to the kind and synthesizing it as a dot image signal so as not to lose the sharpness of a line drawing such as a character. CONSTITUTION:One pattern's share of a character picture data 101 is stored in a character code buffer 10 and stored in a designation area of an image memory 8 by an image memory write position designation circuit 15 and an address generator 14. Then a picture signal 105 is given to image buffer memories 28-1-28-3 together with R, G, B color identification signal 104 and the area to print out the stored intermediate tone picture is designated. The data is stored in an intermediate picture image memory 21 finally via a prescribed picture processing and the write start position is designated by a signal 108 from an external device so as to be printed out on the designated position.
