PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent any play of a mast relative to a hull, by stopping or braking of a drive unit provided with a brake with a slight delay after braking operation of a brake device, in association with the issuance of a mast rotation stopping signal. CONSTITUTION:When the sail angle is optimumly adjusted, a large-size ring gear 2 is rotated by a drive unit 5 through a pinion gear 3. At this time a pinion gear 6 rotates under no braking condition, following-up the large-size ring gear 2. When the mast 1 is set at an optimum sail angle, a mast control device delivers a mast stopping signal so that a brake device 8 operates to control the pinion gear 6. Further, the mast rotation stopping signal is delayed by a predetermined time by means of a delay circuit, and is delivered to a motor 5 provided with a brake to stop the motor. Accordingly, no backlash is present between the pinion gears and the large ring gear 2, and therefore any rotational play of the mast 1 are prevented.
