A device to check the sensitivity of germs and to test them for resistance to antibiotics consists of an elongated structure with a prismatic cross-section which has on each of its side surfaces a row of circular concave recesses. These recesses are filled with a solid nutrient medium, contg. an antiobitic, with each recess receiving a different nutrient medium. A tubular container in which the structure can be enclosed can be closed by a cover with fluid-tight thread. The structure is dipped without the container into the liq. with the germs, extracted and enclosed in the container. It is maintained at a temp. of 38 degrees C and inspected later for the appearance of germ colonies on any of the recesses. Method is more convenient and reliable than applying a multitude of porous paper discs to a large Petri dish.
|
