PURPOSE:To facilitate the evaluation of element characteristics by detecting the number of elements which act properly and their critical currents by means of a computer by a method wherein the computer is connected to a Josephson junction element series circuit via multiplexer, differential amplifier, and variable current circuit. CONSTITUTION:Josephson junction element series circuits 2 and 2' of a Josephson junction element IC1 are connected to the multiplexer 3. The output terminal of the multiplexer 3 is connected to the CPU51 of the computer 5 via differential amplifiers 4. Besides, the variable current generator 6 is connected to the series circuits 2 and 2', and the multiplexer 3 and the generator 6 are connected to the output of the CPU51. This computer 5 is composed of an I/O interface 52 connected to the CPU51, a memory 53, and a control 54. Then, the number of junction elements in the circuit 1 which act properly and their critical currents are automatically detected by means of the computer 5, thus facilitating the evaluation of junction element characteristics.
