PURPOSE:To obtain an optical isolator which can improve insertion loss, attenuation rate in an opposite direction, etc. with a simple structure by providing means of rotating and fixing a pair of polarizers and a Faraday rotator element installed between said polarizers. CONSTITUTION:Polarizer holders 4a, 4b and a Faraday rotator element (consisting of YIG1 and a magnet 2) are installed respectively rotatably about 90 deg. in an optical isolator body 5. Polarizers 3a, 3b are held to the holders 4a, 4b. The holders 4a, 4b are rotated by rotating knobs 7a, 7c and the Faraday rotator element is rotated by a knob 7b. The finest installation condition is obtd. if the Faraday rotator element is turned and adjusted to have the max. extinction ratio and is then fixed after the polarizing axes of the polarizers 3a, 3b are mached with 45 deg. angle. The optical isolator which is improved in insertion loss, attenuating rate in an opposite direction, etc. is thus obtd. with the simple structure.
