A compressed-air braking system having a plurality of normally independent systems controlled by valves D1 and D2 fed from reservoirs S1 and S2 is provided with isolating valves V1 and V2, which allow the valves D1 to be fed from reservoir S2 and vice versa, the inspection valves V 1 or V2 being adapted to be closed automatically in advance of the valves D1 or D2. The systems as a whole are fed from air supplied through conduit 7 to a chamber 3, when the action of a control pressure acting in chamber 8, which also acts upon a piston 6 and a linkage 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 which operates the valves V1 and V2 in advance of the valves D1 and D2.
