<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the energy absorbing function for a pad non-rotary type steering wheel by providing the energy absorbing mechanism at an area enclosed by a center angle of about 90 deg. and covering at least the front center of the steering wheel through its upper part within a pad. CONSTITUTION:An energy absorbing member 15 is made of rigid expandable urethane in a front right-angle triangle at an area enclosed by a center angle of about 90 deg. and covering the center of a pad 13 through its upper side. This member 15 is attached to the bottom surface of the pad 13. Plural units of electronic devices 16 such as a switch, a display device, a sound generator, etc. are provided at the front lower part of the pad 13 and used to a radio set, a constant-speed driver, etc. The pad 13 has no revolution regardless of a steering operation. Therefore it is satisfactory enough to provide the member 15 only at a specific part. Furthermore, the size of the member 15 can be reduced to attain the cost reduction. In addition, the pad 13 can secure a space for a switch 16 and its relay mechanism.</p> |
