The equipment prevents a tank being overfilled, having a filling passage leading from the outside to the inside in a housing and connected to the tank. A valve plug (7) is mounted in bearings (9) above and to the side of a transverse seat (6) in the passage, hinging between the working position against the seat and a rest position away from the latter against the direction of liquid flow. In the latter position the top surface of the plug is clear of the liquid current. A float (10) inside the tank swings the plug into the working position in opposition to a return mechanism normally holding it in the rest position.
