PURPOSE:To produce inexpensively a composite roll for rolling having wear resistance, strength and toughness by installing a cast steel or forged steel core material into a combination mold having a specific structure and casting a high- carbon low-alloy steel, etc. between the mold and the core material. CONSTITUTION:An assembled mold 2 which has a refractory flask 5 having internally an induction heating coil 4 and a water-cooled mold 6 in the lower part thereof is installed on a base plate 3. A cast steel or forged steel bar-shaped body 1 is erected as a core material in the central part thereof. A molten metal of a low alloy cast iron, etc. of 1.4-2.5% C of which the as-cast structure has a network-like precipitated or crystallized carbide structure is cast into the spacing between the mold 2 and the core material 1. The molten metal is heated and stirred by the coil 4 and is thus welded to the material 1 then the molten metal is cooled to solidify by the mold 6 to form a build-up layer 8. The above-mentioned operation is continued while the base plate 3 is gradually lowered. The composite roll for rolling of which the build-up body part is made of the low alloy cast iron and has wear resistance, strength and toughness and the neck part is made of the cast steel or forged steel and has excellent strength is thus obtd. |
