PURPOSE:To obtain inorg. powder having a metallic film of a desired thickness by subjecting the inorg. powder to a surface treatment with a soln. contg. noble metal ions then forming a desired chemical plating layer and subjecting further the powder to electroplating. CONSTITUTION:Inorg. powder of mica, etc. is subjected to a surface treatment using a surface treating agent such as gamma-chloropropyl trimethoxysilane or the like having a property to capture noble metals and the surface thereof is prepd. by immersing the powder into a soln. contg. noble metal ion of palladium chloride, etc. The powder is then treated by a plating liquid contg. required metallic ions of Ni, Zn, etc. to form a plating layer to the extent of covering the powder surface. The powder is subjected to electroplating of Ni, etc. by using a required plating soln. in succession thereto to form a plating layer to a desired thickness. The metal-coated inorg. powder which has good conductivity and is suitable as a packing material for an electromagnetic shielding material is obtd. by the above- mentioned method.
