PURPOSE:To manufacture highly accurately and inexpensively an operation member having a complicate shape by extruding a metallic material into a prescribed cross-sectional shape, cutting it into a prescribed length and successively cold forging it into a formed body of final shape to finish its surface. CONSTITUTION:A metallic material for an operation member is charged into the container of an extruder and is extruded from the hole of a die, then a rod- shaped material 10 having a cross-sectional shape approximately equal to a final one is formed. The material 10 is cut into the length of a final shape to obtain an intermediate material 11. The material 11 is successively charged into a die 12 and is cold forged, then a formed body 13 having the same shape as that of a final product is obtained by simultaneously providing outer-shape pressing and inside drawing to the material 11. The body 13 extracted from the die 12, is machined to remove its burr, etc. and its surface is finished to obtain an operation member.
