PURPOSE:To estimate accurately the average cooling rate of a wire rod of a small diameter in the temp. range of 800-500 deg.C during air patenting by making use of the hardness of the wire rod after the air patenting and a continuous cooling transformation diagram. CONSTITUTION:The hardness of a wire rod 0.7-2.5mm. small diameter after air patenting is measured. The average cooling rate of the wire rod in the temp. range of 800-500 deg.C during the air patenting is estimated in accordance with said hardness, the average cooling rate of a steel in the temp. range of 800-500 deg.C obtd. from the continuous cooling transformation diagram of the steel, and the hardness of the steel. The steel has the same composition as the material of the wire rod. It may be similar in composition to the material of the wire rod. |
