PURPOSE:To shift molten metal surely in the state of droplike form and to prevent occurrence of welding defect improving arc stability by oscillating a welding torch in the axial direction of a welding wire in synchronization with the period of pulse current. CONSTITUTION:In consumable electrode type pulse arc welding, a welding arc 18 is generated between the welding wire and an object to be welded 6, and molten metal 17 is formed by heat of the arc. The molten metal 17 grows up rapidly at the time of peak of pulse current. At this time, a contact chip 8a, a part of the body of a torch, is shifted toward the object to be welded 6 in the axial direction at the tip of the wire 2 to give kinetic energy toward the object to be welded 6 to the molten metal 17. Then, the torch is shifted in the direction off from the object to be welded 6, and the molten metal 17 is separated and shifted by inertia and pinch effect of current to form a weld bead 19. A beautiful bead free from welding defect is obtained by repeating this operation. |
