PURPOSE:To accelerate hydrolysis of metal alkoxide and to obtain desired spherical glass body in a short time with a simple process by allowing to exist a small quantity of hydrofluoric acid in the hydrolysis series of said metal alkoxide. CONSTITUTION:A small quantity of hydrofluoric acid is added and mixed in an aqueous solvent soln. of meta alkoxide such as Si(OCH3)4. The solvent soln. is added under ordinary temp. in an organic medium such as cyclohexane which is not compatible in said soln., dispersive and easy to volatilize, and the mixed soln. is stirred to disperse said solvent soln. In this way, the hydrolysis of said metal alkoxide is performed in a dispersion state to form spherical glass-like gelled material. If necessary, the gelled material is heated at high temp. to obtain a spherical glass body. Thus the manufacturing cost can be reduced by said method. |
