PURPOSE:To charge a photosensitive body at uniform charging potential and, at the same time, to reduce the cost, by providing an electrode between a corona discharger and exposure area at a prescribed distance between the electrodes and photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:In a charging area A a corona discharger 2 is provided in opposition to a photosensitive body 1 and a needle-like electrode string 3 which becomes an electrode is provided between the discharger 2 and an exposure area B in such a way that the electrode string 3 faces the photosensitive body 1 a distance of several mm. between the electrode string 3 and photosensitive body 1 over the direction of width and, at the same time, the needle-like electrode string 3 is electrically grounded. Since the photosensitive body 1 passes over the electrode string 3 after it is charged by the corona discharger 2, unevenness in the charged potential of the body 1 is uniformized by the electricity-removing effect of the string 3. Moreover, it is possible to use a brush electrode instead of the needle- like electrode string 3. In a word, any electrodes which exert the electricity- removing effect can be used when they are installed with a prescribed distance between them and the photosensitive body over the direction of width. |
