PURPOSE:To surely enclose an optical fiber at its enclosing section and to make stress produced in the periphery of the optical fiber uniform, by forming the core metal of the enclosing section with a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion which is equivalent to or slightly larger than that of the metallic block of the enclosing section. CONSTITUTION:The enclosing section of this invention is composed of a metallic block 2 which is formed in such a way that the block 2 is airtightly fitted to the wall 1 of an enclosing container with an O-ring 7 and tapered section and a through-hole section is installed to the central part and a recessed part that is filled with a low-melting point metal 10 for enclosing is formed at the end part, and a core metal 4 which is inserted through the through-hole of the metallic block 2 with minute clearances being formed around the core metal 4. Then plural optical fibers 6 are held in the minute clearances and the fibers 6 are enclosed at the end part of the metallic block 2 with the low-melting point metal 10. When a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion slightly larger than that of the metallic block 2 is used for forming the core metal 4, uniform enclosing stress is obtained in the periphery of the optical fiber 6 and stable characteristics in the airtightness and optical transmission are obtained when the section is enclosed by soldering, etc. |
