PURPOSE:To measure accurately dimensions of a work by bringing the steel front end of a sliding body, which is provided on the center line of the work such as the body of an automobile or the like, into contact with the work and controlling projection and drawing-in with operations of a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A piston rod 91 is projected or drawn in the same direction as the direction, on which a cylinder 90 is energized by a spring 97, to bring a contacting part 86 at the front end of scales 11 and 12 of a sliding body 85, which is formed as one body together with the rod 91, into contact with the work. Thereafter, when the cylinder 90 is moved against the elastic force of the spring 97 in the direction opposite to the direction of projection or drawing-in of the rod 91 by further projection or drawing-in of the rod 91, this movement is detected by a cylinder operation stopping mechanism F to stop the operation of the cylinder 90, and the length from a reference point of a detecting head 89 to the work is measured in this state. |
