PURPOSE:To control the area on a direct access device by defining plural chopping units each of which consists of plural pages on the direct access device, and forming an area control record and a pointer to the area control record in each chopping unit. CONSTITUTION:Data base are stored in the direct access device 1 and the area of the data base is controlled by an information list 2 arranged on the outside of the direct access device 1. The area control record range 5-3 for indicating the contents of respective pages 4-1-4-3 in the chopping unit 3-1 and the using status of the pages is formed and the status of the pages is recorded in the area control record range 5-3. The pointer 6-1 for indicating the position of the area control record is also formed in the chopping unit 3-1. Thus, local area control in each separation unit of the information list 2 can be attained in the direction access device 1. |
