NEW MATERIAL:Monoazo compounds of formula I , wherein X1, X2, X3, X4 are each H, Cl, Br, nitro; Y is H, Cl, methyl; R is alkyl, allyl; at least two of X1, X2, X3, X4 are always H, but at least one thereof is a group other than H. USE:Dyes for hydrophobic fibers such as polyester fibers, polyamide fibers, cellulose diacetate fibers and cellulose triacetate fibers. The dyes are particularly suitable for use in dyeing polyester fibers. When the dyes are used as dyes for effect color in an alkaline-colored resist discharge printing method, a colored discharge-printed cloth in which the discharge-printed part is clear and dyed deep red can be obtd. PREPARATION:A 2-aminobenzothiazole of formula II is diazotized and then coupled with an aniline derivative of formula III to obtain the desired compd.
