PURPOSE:The titled foam excellent in heat insulation, processability, and flame retardancy, comprising a specified thermoplastic resin (mixture), a water-containing inorganic filler, and a bisphenol A-derived (crosslinked) brominated epoxy resin. CONSTITUTION:The titled foam of a bromine content of 2-10wt% is obtained by melt-mixing and expanding a mixture of 100pts.wt. (A) resin component containing either (a) a lowly crystaline (rubber-like) thermoplastic resin of a crystallinity <=40% or a mixture of component a with (b) a crystalline polyolefin thermoplastic resin (e.g., PP of a density >=0.910g/cm<3>) in a mixing ratio, b/a, of 0- 4, 60-200pts.wt. (B) water-containing inorganic filler containing bound water or hydroxyl groups in the molecule and having a moisture-releasing peak temperature >=250 deg.C and a particle diameter of 0.01-50mu [e.g., Mg(OH)2], (C) a bisphenol A-derived epoxy resin of a bromine content of 16-60wt%, an epoxy equivalent weight of 200-2,000, and an MW of 400-4,000 [e.g., a compound of the formula (wherein n and m are integers, and n>=m)], and (D) a heat-decomposable blowing agent (e.g., azodicarbonamide).
