PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which excels in traveling performance and durability with reduced noise, by forming a magnetic layer on the main surface at one side of a nonmagnetic supporter to apply the surface processing to this magnetic layer and then forming a back coat layer to the other side of said supporter to apply calender processing to the surface of the back coat layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer is formed on the main surface at one side of a nonmagnetic supporter with the surface processing applied to the surface of said magnetic layer. While a back coat agent containing pigments and a binder is applied to the other side of the nonmagnetic supporter and then dried to obtain a back coat layer. Then the calender processing is applied to the surface of the back coat layer to improve the smoothness on the surface of the back coat layer. At the same time, the back description can be suppressed to the surface of the magnetic layer. At the same time, the back coat layer is compressed to improve the apparent density and then the mechanical strength of a magnetic recording medium.
