The shaft coupling lockable in the open position, is partic. for coupling a universal joint shaft of an agricultural implement to a tractor PTO. It comprises locking members, guided in the radial direction in a coupling sleeve, sliding against spring action and engaging in an annular groove in the PTO shaft. A support ring (6) slides axially in the bore of the sleeve (1), and with the latter fitted to the PTO shaft (7), this ring is held against the latter. With the sleeve pulled off, the ring is freed from the shaft when in the radial plane of the aperture for the locking members.
