PURPOSE:To provide a thermochromic material containing a macro-molecular cation and a hexacyano complex salt, which changes its color as the hexacyano complex salt undergoes oxidation and reduction, can be formed into film or applied as coating and is least susceptible to change with time. CONSTITUTION:The thermochromic material is prepd. by dissolving in water (A) macromolecular cation (e.g. polyvinyl amine), (B) hexacyano complex salt of the formula (where M1 and M2 are transition metal or rare earth metal) which is used in 0.01-0.3mol of cation gp. of (A) and when necessary, (C) electroconductive auxiliary (e.g. TiO2). When necessary, the material is formed into film or is as coating. The material changes its color reversibly as the hexacyano complex salt undergoes oxidation and reduction.
