Surface treatment of an article made from heat-sensitive material and use of this treatment for improving the adhesion of a covering subsequently deposited on the article. This treatment consists in subjecting the surface of the said article 8 to the action of a gaseous arc plasma 10 and in immediately cooling the surface thus treated by spraying over the latter a cooling liquid which is at a temperature close to its saturation temperature. The article may be made from epoxy resin reinforced by glass fibres and be subsequently coated with a ceramic material, for example boron carbide, or with an Al, W, Ni metal. <IMAGE>
