NEW MATERIAL:The hydrazide of formula I . USE:A latent curing agent for epoxy resin. It is useful also as a raw material of polyurethane. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting hydrazine hydrate with a compound [the compound of formula III (R' is alkyl)] obtained by the addition reaction of 1mol of 12-aminododecanoic acid ester of formula II (R is alkyl such as CH3, C2H5, etc.) and 2mol of an acrylic acid ester. The amount of hydrazine hydrate is >=3 times mol of the addition reaction product. The acrylic acid ester to be added to the compound of formula IIis usually an alkyl ester, and especially methyl ester for the practical purpose. An epoxy resin compounded with a prescribed amount of the hydrazide obtained by the above method has high storage stability, is curable at <=110 deg.C, and gives a colorless, transparent and tough cured product. The hydrazide is effective to impart the cured product with remarkable flexibility, and has excellent weather resistance.
