A method in the repair of a defective tube in a jacketed tubular heat exchanger comprises introducing a tubular sleeve into the defective tube and the sealing connection of the end regions of the sleeve with the tube, in order to bridge the damaged site. The tubular sleeve is axially flexible (for example due to circumferential corrugation) or is joined in a mechanically positive fashion to the tube at the sites near the connecting site at the end regions of the sleeve, or the tubular sleeve can be joined both in an axially flexible fashion and in a mechanically positive fashion in the above- named way.
