A loading unit with horizontal conveying worms to take hold of heaped material and a vertical conveying worm is to be developed in such a way that, for delivery to silos, loading vehicles or the like, the heaped material is taken hold of and delivered from an elevated, preferably adjustable discharging point. This is achieved by making a moving mechanism support a pickup casing with a horizontal worm and a worm casing which is connected to the pickup casing and has a vertical conveying worm, the outside of the front of the pickup casing having a pickup aperture which points away from the vehicle and the vertical worm casing in such a way that the said aperture is delimited at bottom by a tangent plane which extends approximately from the lowest point of the horizontal worm and slopes in a ramp-like fashion. A discharging tube which discharges over a large area and the length of which is at least equal to the measured length of the horizontal worm measured from the central plane of the vertical worm casing, is connected to the upper end of the vertical worm casing, the relative position of the discharging point determined by a transfer piece or the end of a transfer tube being displaceable as required within predetermined limits by pivoting the discharging tube or parts of the latter and/or mutual displacement.
