PURPOSE:To concentrate a higher alcohol existing in natural wax in the form bonded with a fatty acid through an ester bond, by saponifying the wax with an alkali, adding an aqueous solution of a metal salt thereto, and separating and removing the fatty acid as a metallic soap. CONSTITUTION:A higher alcohol in wax is concentrated easily in an isolated state, without using distillation, by saponifying the wax completely with an alkali such as sodium hydroxide, adding an aqueous solution of a metal salt other than alkali metal salt to produce insoluble metallic soap, and removing the fatty acid in the mixture in the form of a metallic soap by physical means such as precipitation, filtration, centrifugal separation, etc. EFFECT:A higher alcohol having high boiling point and high melting point can be prepared easily and economically from natural wax.
