Digital measuring devices frequently have a quasi-analog measurement value indication in order to visualise the trend in the change of a measurement value. Controllable area segments of a liquid crystal display provide a measurement value scale with labelling and a pointer mark which changes its position in accordance with the measurement value. The invention is to be used for creating a measuring device in which a measuring scale can be adapted to different measuring ranges and the complexity of the drive of the display is to be small. This object is achieved by the invention by a scale in which some scale lines (18) consist of several line segments (18a, 18b) which can be separately selected and which, selected jointly, increase the length and/or thickness of the respective scale line. An automatic scale adaptation device ensures that when the measuring range is switched over, the longer and/or thicker scale lines come to lie at a point, which, in conjunction with associated inserted scale values displayed numerically, result in a scale corresponding to the measuring range set. <IMAGE>
