The invention relates to a slewing crane which is arranged on a sea base (ship, pontoon, drilling platform or the like) and the superstructure of which is supported on its fixed mounting unit via a ball-bearing or roller-bearing slewing rim, comprising a jib pivotable about a horizontal axis by means of luffing gear, one or more rope-tackle lifting mechanims, and a circular-cylindrical component (shell) extending up from the slewing rim and of the same diameter as the slewing rim. According to the invention, at appropriately large diameters of shell and slewing rim and appropriate shell height - with the omission of a separate machinery house - the mechanical drives such as jib luffing gear, lifting mechanism or lifting mechanisms and slewing mechanisms are arranged inside the shell, and at least the jib luffing gear and the lifting mechanism or lifting mechanisms are arranged at the same level. Consequently, the outlay on the machinery house in the slewing crane of extremely large slewing-rim diameter, 15 m and more, is slight.
