In a method for construcing and covering a transportable silo, the silage being piled up in a specific width, length and height and compensated by a heavy tractor moving continuously to and fro on the silo, a foil being laid over the silage, and the foil, together with the silage, being covered with earth, for the purpose of covering the transportable silo the foil is pulled away from the end of the transportable silo in stages, together with the earth located on it, in such a way that the start of the transportable silo is exposed over the desired length. A foil for use in carrying out this method, with its start at the start of the transportable silo and its end at the end of the transportable silo, is acid-resistant and tear-resistant, the start of the foil being connected to a pull cord leading to the end of the transportable silo. <IMAGE>
