PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, perfumes, etc., particularly an intermediate for prostaglandins industrially at a low cost, by reacting a specific sulfonic acid ester with an alkali halide compound. CONSTITUTION:A sulfonic acid ester of formula I (R is tetrahydropyranol; n is an integer 3-10; R' is sulfonic acid residue), e.g. 7-(alpha-tetrahydropyranyloxy)-2- heptenyl mesylate, is reacted with an alkyl halide, e.g. lithium bromide, to give the aimed compound of formula II (X is halogen). The starting material of formula I can be produced by bringing an acetylenealcohol derivative of formula IIIinto contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst in an inert medium to afford an alcohol derivative of formula IV, and reacting the resultant alcohol derivative of formula IV with a sulfonyl halide.
