PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption of a power source by cutting off a part of power source supplied to a circuit when it stops for more than specified time. CONSTITUTION:When a portable VTR16 is in recordable state, only necessary image can be recorded on a tape by making a temporary stop switch 19 ON/ OFF. On the other hand, if the time of temporary stop becomes longer than a specified time set by a variable resistor 22, this state is detected by a comparator circuit incorporated in a timer circuit 21, and a signal is transmitted to a power source controlling circuit 23. At this time, the power source controlling circuit 23 cuts off supply of power source with the exception of an image pickup tube 13, the heater of an electronic viewfinder 15 and a part of circuits, and the video camera goes to stand-by state to reduce power consumption. When resuming photographing, by resetting measured time to zero by a timer circuit 21 by operating a timer reset switch 26, power source is supplied again to all circuits and photographing is made possible.
