PURPOSE:Fibers for optical transmission having specific glass as the core part and glass consisting essentially of SiO2 as the clad part, a relatively low loss and a great difference in refractive index between the core and the clad. CONSTITUTION:Fibers for optical transmission formed from TiO2-R-R-SiO2 based glass [R is GeO2 and/or oxide than the GeO2, e.g. Al2O3, Ga2O3 or P2O5], [pre ferred composition is 3-15wt% TiO2, 5-40wt% R (provided that the content of the oxide other than the GeO2 is 0-30wt%), 0.01-1wt% F and the remainder of SiO2] as the core part and glass consisting essentially of SiO2 as the clad part. |
