PURPOSE:To produce metal oxide powder suitable for the manufacture of a sintered material having dense texture, by adding an organic compound for alkoxylation and another organic compound for a binder used in the following sintering process to a metal or a metallic compound, mixing and stirring the mixture, converting the metal to a metal hydroxide by hydrolysis, and drying the product. CONSTITUTION:A metal and/or a metallic compound are added with an organic compound for alkoxylation (e.g. isopropyl alcohol) and another organic compound to be used in the following sintering process and having a boiling point of >=150 deg.C (e.g. polyvinyl alcohol). The mixture is stirred to convert the metal to the hydroxide by hydrolysis, dried, and calcined to obtain the objective metal oxide powder.
