发明名称 PRODUCTION OF BASE MATERIAL FOR OPTICAL FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To produce a base material of low loss without eccentricity, by fusing a quartz glass tube to a core rod inserted into the interior thereof while drawing both simultaneously in producing the base material for optical fibers by the rod- in-tube method. CONSTITUTION:A quartz glass tube 1 having a clad glass layer 2 formed on the inner surface thereof is mounted to the upper and the lower movable mounts 5 and 7 respectively at both ends thereof (symbol 4 indicates the vertical and horizontal glass lathes), and the interior of the glass tube 1 is evacuated. A burner 6 is moved to form the cross section of the tube by about 10% length thereof into an elliptical shape. A core rod 3 is then inserted into the glass tube 1, and both ends thereof are fixed on the upper and lower movable mounts 5 and 7. The upper movable mount 5 is moved upward while moving the burner 6 upward simultaneously to fuse and integrate the glass tube 1 with the core rod 3 while drawing the glass tube 1 and core rod 3 to form the aimed base material 8 for optical fibers having plane of polarization.
