PURPOSE:To facilitate the handling in reaction and control of composition ratio and obtain the titled copolymer, by reacting an amino group-terminated aromatic polyamide oligomer with an amino group-terminated aromatic polyamic acid oligmer in the presence of an acid component and a solvent, and imidizing the resultant reaction product under heating. CONSTITUTION:(A) An amino group-terminated aromatic polyamide oligomer is reacted with (B) an amino group-terminated polyamic acid oligomer in the presence of (C) at least one acid component of a dicarboxylic acid dihalide, tricarboxylic acid monohalide monanhydride or tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and a solvent, and the resultant polyamide-polyamic acid block copolymer is imidized under heating to give the aimed block copolymer. Preferably, the formula amount of the component (A) units to be used is 200-20,000, and the formula amount of the component (B) units to be used is 500-20,000.
