<p>A 3,5-disubstituted pyridine of the formula: < IMG > wherein the respective groups R1 and R6 are branched chain or mixed isomer alkyl groups together containing a total of from 16 to 36 carbon atoms, and wherein Y is hydrogen or is one or more of the groups halogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aralkyl, cyano, nitro or carboxylic acid, is provided. The compounds are extractants which show high selectivity for copper over zinc and provide a potential for zinc recovery in leach solutions containing copper and zinc.</p> |
