PURPOSE:To resist the impulse pressure of waves and secure a sufficient deck area on a bow section by providing the bow section with an angle of rake exceeding 57 deg. from the position a prescribed distance above the intersection between an imaginary bow line whose bow angle of rake is less than 57 deg. and the and the full load draft line, to the top of bow. CONSTITUTION:The shape of a bow is determined based on the intersection P between an imaginary bow line 2' whose bow angle of rake theta' is less than 57 deg. and the full load draft line 1 and a level L located at a position less than the preset distance (2% of the ship length) from the full load draft line 1. The angle of rake of a bow line 2a from the top of the bow to the level L is set to 57 deg. or more that is a safety bow angle of rake. A fair bow line 2b gives connection between the level L and the intersection P. Any damage caused by the impulse pressure of waves can be prevented by securing a safety angle of rake in the bow section and a sufficient deck area of the bow section can be secured.
