PURPOSE:To permit a high-accuracy detection of register marks without being affected by effects from a block ground level by eliminating unnecessary signals of the block ground level and by picking up nothing but signals of register marks. CONSTITUTION:By a mark detection circuit 15 which is installed in a register adjusting device 5, direct-current components of a block ground level are eliminated from the register mark detection signals including a block ground level signals to preclude effects caused by kinds of block materials, lights and shades of printed register marks and gumming up, and the signals of register marks are exclusively picked up. Phase values can be accurately detected and detections of register mark positions are feasible even in the case when detection level is changed by a change in a brightness of the block ground.
