PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a specific gas absorbent in high purity at a low cost, by reacting 2-(2'-chloroethoxy)ethanol obtained by a specific method with a secondary or tertiary amino compound. CONSTITUTION:Diethylene glycol is reacted with hydrogen chloride to replace one hydroxyl group of the diethylene glycol with chlorine. The resultant mixture containing 2-(2'-chloroethoxy)ethanol and monoethylene glycol formed as a by- product is reacted with a primary or secondary amino compound, e.g. tertiary butylamine or N-methylcyclohexylamine, in a solvent, e.g. monoethylene glycol, at about 80 deg.C under atmospheric pressure to afford the aimed substance.
