PURPOSE:To estimate a coloring result by an arbitrary colorant with good accuracy, with respect to a color article colored by one - several kinds of colorants, by measuring the spectroscopic reflectively, extinction coefficient and scattering coefficient of the color article and the refractive index of the material of said article to form relations expression for calculating spectroscopic reflectivity. CONSTITUTION:With respect to a color article colored by one - several kinds of colorants, the spectroscopic reflectivity R', extinction coefficient K and scattering coefficient S of the color article and the refractive index N of the material of said article are measured or theoretically calculated from measured values. Various values calculated by changing the concns. of the colorants are substituted for the relational expression I and coefficients f1, f2 are determined so that the optical density K/S of the color article and the concns. of the colorants are brought to linear relation. For example, the coefficient f1 comes to about 0.04 and f2 to about 0.01. When a fiber or plastic is colored by an arbitrary colorant, the formula I is operated on the basis of data of colorants and the material by a computer. Therefore, the coloring result of the color article, that is, the spectroscopic reflectivity R' and optical density K/S can be estimated with good accuracy.
