<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substrate having large substrate surface area, useful as a substrate for cell culture, and effective to facilitate the mass culture, by dispersing a neutral aqueous solution of collagen in a nonpolar organic solvent to form an emulsion, and solidifying the droplets by increasing the temperature of the emulsion. CONSTITUTION:A neutral solution of collagen is dispersed in the form of a number of droplets in a nonpolar organic solvent (e.g. toluene, CCl4, ether, etc.) at 0-25 deg.C to obtain an emulsion, which is heated at 30-40 deg.C to solidify said droplets. A substrate containing regenerated collagen fibrils can be prepared by this process. The substrate forms a bead composed of an irregularly entangled regenerated collagen fibrils having a diamter of 10-1,000mum and the aqueous solution existing between said fibrils, and contains 20-0.01wt% regenerated collagen fibril. The substrate has large substrate surface area, is effective to facilitate the mass culture of cells, and is useful also as a carrier for the determination of the adhesivity of thrombocyte.</p> |
